What a Legacy Film Engagement Actually Looks Like
These projects begin with a conversation, not a form. We talk about the story you want preserved, the materials that exist, and the people whose voices should be in it. From there I build a plan: archival gathering, digitization of old formats, optional recorded interviews, and a story structure that makes seventy years feel like a film instead of a filing cabinet.
Discretion is not a feature here, it is the foundation. I work under NDA without hesitation, materials are handled through secure private channels, and finished films are never shown, referenced, or excerpted publicly. Several of my legacy clients found me precisely because my public work proved the craft while my private work stayed private.
And a practical note that matters more every year: the tapes, film reels, and slides in your family's storage are degrading right now. Part of every legacy engagement is rescuing those formats while they can still be rescued. Even families who are not ready for the full film often start there.

What is a family legacy film?
A family legacy film is a professionally crafted cinematic film that preserves a family's story: its history, voices, personalities, and defining moments, drawn from photographs, home movies, documents, and recorded interviews. Unlike a montage for a single event, a legacy film is built to be watched by generations who have not been born yet.
How is this different from your event montage work?
Scope, depth, and process. Event montages celebrate a moment. Legacy films preserve a lineage, usually involving weeks of archival work, recorded interviews, and a longer creative process. They are commissioned engagements with a concierge-level process, which is why they begin at $15,000.
Do you sign NDAs and work confidentially?
Yes, as a matter of course. Materials move through secure private channels, projects are never named or shown publicly, and I am accustomed to working with family offices, assistants, and advisors as intermediaries when that is preferred.
Can you interview our parents or grandparents on camera?
Yes, and I strongly encourage it. A parent telling their own story in their own voice is the single most valuable element a legacy film can contain. Interviews are conducted gently, at their pace, in a setting where they are comfortable. Families consistently tell me these recordings become priceless.
We have boxes of old tapes, film reels, and slides. Can you handle those?
Yes. Digitizing and restoring legacy formats is a standard part of these engagements, and frankly it is urgent: magnetic tape and film stock degrade whether or not you ever make a film. Everything is handled carefully, digitized professionally, and returned organized.
How long does a legacy film take?
Most legacy engagements run 2 to 4 months depending on archival volume and interview scheduling. This is not a rush product, and the timeline exists to serve the depth of the result. If a specific occasion is driving your timeline, tell me first and I will design the engagement around it.
